Hey gang! How goes? I’m starting a Sketch a Day project and like the title implies, each day I’ll be putting up a new sketch (or in some lucky cases two or three). Also, should you want to nab the original sketch of the day, I’ll be putting each one up in my Etsy Shop for buying.

Sketch a Day #2

Welcome to Sketch a day #2!! I went to the Met the other day and they have The Storm (La Tempête), a painting by French artist Pierre Auguste Cot on display. Salon paintings are very beautiful and rich looking. I thought the story of the lovers seeking refuge for an oncoming storm worked pretty well with the Princess Bubblegum and Marceline pairing (that I totally love and support!)

Sketch a Day #3

I’ve always had a big wibbly soft spot for anything Alphonse Mucha particularly his Moon & Stars series of drawings. (I mean what person who likes Japanese prints, anime/manga and was on deviantart at age 14 doesn’t!?) When I went to the Met the other day, I found that they had a single Mucha painting (it was Joan of Arc) in a distant corner. Like with most paintings, they are so much more interesting in  person where one can pickup on all the finished and unfinished and brush spotted finery.

So for today’s sketch of the day I decided to continue on with my Adventure Time muse, Princess Bubblegum, in an homage to one of my favorite Art Noveau paintings, The Morning Star.

Welcome to Sketch a Day #4!

More Adventure Time as historically famous paintings that I saw at the Met! Today is inspired by Le déjeuner sur l’herbe by Édouard Manet.  The painting is famous for shocking a whole lot of French people when it debuted and scholarly people still like to debate about it too. There is something a bit weird and disconcerting about a voluptuous woman starring directly at you from a painting next to two clothed people. But I think sometimes art is awesome when it makes you uncomfortable…

Sketch a Day #6

Heya! It’s the 6th Sketch a Day! Yay!

So today I actually went out sketching with a group of awesome friends today. I’ll post some of those doodles later. For now, I leave you with my current muse, Princess Bubblegum as a ballerina. Specifically as inspired by the sculpture I saw at the Met: Little Dancer of Fourteen Years (La Petite Danseuse de Quatorze Ans) by Edgar Degas. I can’t say that Degas was an awesome person (because anyone who is anti-semetic isn’t cool…) but I can say that he was a very awesome Impressionist painter and the little girl in me always liked to see his pretty paintings of ballerinas.

Sketch a Day #12 (Inktober Begins)

Every Day A Sketch!

Hiya!! Welcome back to sketch a day! It’s day #12. I had an awesome time at AWA, but I was super exhausted afterwards. I got to meet so many awesome people and hang out with a ton of excellent artists (you know who you are!). Anyways it’s also Inktober, and it does fit in with my whole aspiring towards a sketch a day thang. Now I know that Inktober is all about raw inks, but I think I’m starting to get somewhere with brush pen and watercolor- so for now that’s where I’m gonna live.

Woah what a ramble… onto the art!! Today I asked my spiffy twitter followers what I should draw.

First up is “My Ideal Cosplay” for Mr. Phil Khan aka @GuildedAge. The story is that my ideal cosplay is Ramona Flowers of Scott Pilgrim fame. Two years ago, I dressed up (err cosplayed) as Ramona and no sooner did I walk into the doors of New York Comic Con than I ran into Mr. Bryan Lee O’Malley himself. It was a *most* awesome comic con experience! Lately I’ve been known to rock this ensemble. (Many of you out there know me as that gal with the blue hair… psst it’s a spiff-tastic wig!)

And Next up we have “a fat mermaid” for Miss Amanda Propaganda  aka ‏@panditty. Though let’s be real, this mermaid isn’t fat, she’s fabulous and rather Divine-inspired if I may say.

Every Day A Sketch!Hey welcome to day 13,  I’ma let you finish,  but you didn’t think I’d forget the most famous painting of all time! Here she is- Lumpy Space Princess as Leonardo da Vinci’s very own, Mona Lisa. We all know that this painting is really about secret alien communication, right? It’s the trees… they are a code.
