Presenting ODE: the Sword and Sorcery comic I’ve been working on.

The poll for what sketches to post next is in. Now I’ll (finally) let you in more on this comic that I’ve been working on with Tim. It’s called ODE!

Ode is about a badass knight chick named Stana as seen through the perspective of her squire, Wren during a time when magic is fading from the world. Tim and I have been figuring out the story for quite some time & I think we’re (finally!) getting into the really interesting development stages. Here are a bunch of my sketches as I try to explore who I want Stana to be. Honestly, I think my first few sketches are closer to the character. I’m leaning towards more waved than curly hair.

Also, I know that everyone loves my very sketchy style, so I want this comic to reflect that. No chibis (well.. not in cannon muaha), and no super anime- more my style and an edgyness. I really want it to come across as cinematic.  As these are my early sketches, I don’t think much of that is conveyed yet- my style keeps changing so I’m trying to push myself these days to take things even further. I’ll be posting more as I develop it. We want to start getting into nitty gritty over the summer, so that by late summer we can start posting it for reals.

Mountain

I can do this!

I’ve locked myself up until Monday. I’m making an Ode sketchbook/preproduction book for Connecticon. I’ve been trying to nail down the characters, style, and world. I’ve never put so much into something like this. You’ll see more seeping out of my tumblr, and I’ll be posting another huge sketch dump on SS soon.

I feel bad b/c I haven’t been updating my DA/squidsalad and it seems all I’m doing is doodling these OCs. Thanks for sticking around and watching. I’m in that perilous part of development and after I get thru it, I’ll be on the cusp of something awesome. But right now I’m literally sweating.

I think every artist goes thru some kind of self doubt- ‘oh i’m not *really* an illustrator’, ‘why am I doing this when there are so many cooler people out there?’ But this is a story that I NEED to tell, and it will evolve. Evolution through fire.

I’m in the line at the roller coaster and I’m about to puke from anticipation.

But I just have to let it happen.

What’s up!

A quick note from a non-stop party! Right after Otakon (which was fantastic!), I went back to Buffalo to visit family. My little sister is visiting me in NYC this week and it’s been a blast. Later in the week I’m going back to Buffalo for my friend’s amazing wedding! Sooo I shall be back and ready to get this site in order Monday the 20th! Also Ode now has a website and that will be happening soon and I’m quite excited for it!! www.odecomic.com You can even sign up to get an email when it launches!
