I was so nervous to post this. It’s my first crack at an original short story. I keep doodling her all over the place and in strange dreamy settings, so it’s about time I try to give her a bit of a context…
No worries- I’ll still mostly post random life slices, but it’s fun to have little short bits of something. If I can get enough confidence about this, maybe I can make it into something….
I’m staring to try to update. A Lot. I’m trying to be better. I think that I’ve been going through a lot lately (well blah who isn’t), but I think the best way I can cope is maybe just putting more stuff up here and trying my best. In that effort, here is a WIP for that geisha character I can’t get out of my head…
Now for some original art! This is another of my geisha with antlers type characters. She’s going to be in Tim & my upcoming comic, ODE.
I whipped this up in 10 minutes from a big piece of cardboard. It’s 4 feet (ish) and made from charcoal, India Ink and a bamboo brush. I’m not sure what to do with it, it was a giant sketch on a whim. I think I’m going to put it somewhere in NYC and see if it gets picked up (or thrown out haha)

Sketch a Day #53 is an original evolving character of mine- a Deva. She’s part fairy, geisha, and other worldly kami. In the story that Tim and I are working on, (Ode), there are are all kinds of devas besides the main chick, so I’ve been doodling a lot of examples for lesser and major kinds of devas. As Tim writes them, they don’t even necessarily have to take the form of a super pretty chick- I just like drawing them like this (hehe). I’ve got a video of this process I’ll post on Monday-ish so look out for that. For this one I used a mix of ink, watercolor and some copic markers on a rough 140lb cold press watercolor paper.
